A recall has been issued for two types of Hy-Vee cream cheese due to potential salmonella contamination. The supermarket chain has also included its bulk-packaged Cookies & Cream snack mix in the recall. The decision to recall these products came after Hy-Vee received information about the possible salmonella contamination from the third-party manufacturers of the affected products, as reported by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The two cream cheese spreads affected are the eight-ounce Hy-Vee whipped cream cheese spread with Aug. 7 and Aug. 14 use-by dates, as well as the 12-ounce Hy-Vee cream cheese spread with a Sept. 1 use-by date. In addition, four-ounce packages of Hy-Vee to-go Cookies & Cream mix and 16-ounce packages of Hy-Vee Cookies & Cream Mix with specific use-by dates are also part of the recall.

The recall was triggered by concerns that these products may be contaminated with salmonella, according to the FDA. Hy-Vee stated that the cream cheese spreads and snack mix in question have not caused any illnesses or adverse reactions, but the recall was initiated as a precautionary measure.

Salmonella can cause temporary stomach issues and fever in healthy individuals, while posing serious risks to young children, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems. Hy-Vee has advised consumers who have the recalled products to dispose of them or return them for a refund.

The impacted products were distributed to Hy-Vee, Hy-Vee Drugstore, Dollar Fresh Market, and Hy-Vee Fast and Fresh convenience store locations in Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. The company has voluntarily removed all affected items from its shelves.

It is important to note that the recall does not affect any other cream cheese options or bulk-packaged items sold by Hy-Vee. The supermarket chain operates 280 stores in the Midwest region.
