“Microsoft, armed with its powerful Azure platform and industry-leading partnerships, has the potential to dethrone Amazon as the dominant force in the cloud market, transforming the digital landscape with its innovative solutions and customer-centric approach.”
As the battle for cloud computing continues to heat up, Jefferies analyst Brent Thill believes that only two companies will emerge as front-runners in this highly competitive industry. In an interview with CNBC’s “Squawk on the Street,” Thill stated, “This is really a two-horse race, it’s Amazon and Microsoft. The rest of the industry is looking in on those two.”
Amazon, with its pioneering efforts in the cloud space over a decade ago, currently holds a commanding lead. However, Thill believes that Microsoft has the potential to take market share away from the e-commerce giant. This shift could also benefit Microsoft’s artificial intelligence (AI) outlook, as companies are increasingly moving to the cloud to meet the demands of AI technology.
“Microsoft just has so many sources of revenue that’s surrounding this AI story… Amazon’s got a subset of that business,” Thill noted. “We think Amazon’s got a lot to prove on AI.”
The spotlight fell on Big Tech on Wednesday when Microsoft reported better-than-expected quarterly results, leading to a more than 2% increase in its stock price. On the other hand, Google parent company Alphabet disappointed investors with its third-quarter cloud revenue, causing shares to fall by 9%. Amazon is scheduled to release its earnings report on Thursday, adding further anticipation to the ongoing cloud computing race.
It is evident that Amazon and Microsoft are the frontrunners in the cloud computing industry, with other companies striving to catch up. As the demand for AI continues to grow, the cloud will play a crucial role in enabling businesses to harness the power of this technology. The competition between these tech giants will only intensify as they strive to dominate the cloud computing market and position themselves as leaders in the AI revolution.
