The central government has asked Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to step in and help resolve the ongoing workers’ strike at Samsung Electronics’ Sriperumbudur plant. This comes after 17 days of striking by workers, with the company urging them to return to work and offering to negotiate directly with employees instead of through unions. Samsung emphasizes the well-being of its workers, highlighting that their salaries and benefits are competitive compared to other companies in the region. The company also notes that most of its Chennai workforce are full-time employees with an average tenure of over ten years, indicating job satisfaction. The central government has assured support in reaching a quick resolution to this situation.

Title: Tamil Nadu Government Urged to Resolve Samsung Workers’ Strike

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is being called upon to help end the ongoing strike at Samsung’s Sriperumbudur plant, which is now entering its 17th day. The central government, through Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, has reached out to the state government for an early and amicable resolution to the situation, highlighting its importance for the manufacturing sector in the region.

In his letter, Mandaviya expressed the central government’s commitment to support Tamil Nadu in resolving the workers’ concerns. On the other hand, Samsung has encouraged its workers to return to their jobs, stating that it wishes to have direct talks with them instead of negotiating through the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU). This has become a point of contention as the president of the Samsung India Workers’ Union (SIWU), E. Muthukumar, is closely linked to CITU, complicating the discussions.

Samsung’s statement emphasized their dedication to addressing various issues surrounding employee wages, benefits, and workplace conditions directly with the workers. According to the company, the average monthly salary for their full-time manufacturing employees is significantly higher than those in similar positions at other companies in the area. They also highlighted that most workers in the Chennai plant are full-time employees and typically stay with the company for over ten years, indicating a generally positive working environment.

As the situation develops, efforts from both the Tamil Nadu government and Samsung will be crucial in ensuring a fair resolution that benefits the workers while maintaining the stability of the manufacturing sector.
