She criticized the lack of dredging at the Farakka barrage for the past two decades, claiming it could have mitigated the flooding. The Chief Minister also warned residents of Bhutni to stay in makeshift camps as more rain and water discharge are expected in the coming days.
As the Durga Puja festival approaches, she urged everyone to maintain peace and avoid using the crisis to create disturbances. In a show of support for local businesses, she announced compensation for the shops destroyed in a fire, allocating Rs 1 lakh for completely destroyed shops and Rs 50,000 for those partially damaged. Banerjee expressed frustration over the Central government’s lack of assistance during times of natural calamity, asserting that Bengal is frequently left waiting for promised aid.
