The Haryana Congress has unveiled an ambitious election manifesto ahead of the state assembly polls scheduled for October 5. The manifesto, presented in Chandigarh, includes a range of promises aimed at improving the welfare of farmers, providing financial support for martyred soldiers’ families, and enhancing employment opportunities through the establishment of labor-intensive units.

Key figures present at the press conference included Haryana Congress chief Udai Bhan, former chief minister Ashok Gehlot, and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda. Gehlot emphasized the manifesto’s comprehensive design, stating it was developed after engaging with various community segments, ensuring a plan that resonates with the people’s needs.

Among the major commitments, the Congress party has promised a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP) for farmers, monthly financial aid for women, and a substantial pension scheme for the elderly and disabled. Additionally, they aim to create two lakh permanent government jobs and provide free electricity and medical treatment to families in need.

Geeta Bhukkal, Congress MLA and chairperson of the manifesto committee, highlighted plans to establish a dedicated farmers’ commission to address their challenges and support small farmers with subsidies for diesel. The party also pledges to honor the memory of the 736 farmers who lost their lives during protests against previous agricultural laws by granting them “martyr” status.

The Congress intends to phase out existing government initiatives that they argue have caused hardships, like the Parivar Pehchan Patra, and replace them with new systems designed to streamline access to government services.

In terms of community welfare, the party has promised to reform the Haryana Minority Commission and raise the creamy layer limit for backward classes to better support marginalized families. To combat drugs, they plan to establish a drug de-addiction commission, reflecting a commitment to tackling social issues head-on.

As Haryana gears up for the elections, the Congress’s manifesto presents a robust agenda aimed at winning the trust of Haryana citizens and forming the next government.
