On Sunday, Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida led a large ‘Subhadra Swagat Padayatra’ in Bhubaneswar, beginning from Unit-III Giridurga Temple and ending at Ramadevi University Square. The event saw thousands of women marching alongside her in support of the upcoming launch of the Subhadra Yojana by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which is set for September 17.
Numerous leaders, including Deputy CM KV Singh Deo and Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi, attended the event. The Padayatra, which aims to create awareness about the government’s initiatives, will take place across all revenue villages in Odisha for one week, reaching out to blocks, panchayats, and villages.
Anganwadi workers, supervisors, members of self-help groups (SHG), and Asha workers will lead these awareness marches, ensuring that the message reaches the grassroots level. The government is keen on promoting the scheme through engaging activities like drawing, talent shows, quizzes, debates, and dance competitions in villages. Contest winners will receive the title of ‘Subhadra Apa,’ and their success stories will be featured as ‘Mo Subhadra Story.’
Reports suggest that around 6 million women have already signed up for the Subhadra Yojana, with the first installment of Rs 5,000 to be distributed on September 17. Deputy CM Pravati Parida emphasized the program’s goal to empower women and make them self-reliant.
In a contrasting remark, MP Aparajita Sarangi criticized the ruling BJD government, stating that if they had effectively implemented the Mission Shakti program over the years, there would have been no need for the Subhadra Yojana. She expressed satisfaction with the launch of the new initiative, reinforcing the BJP’s commitment to its promises.
