The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of making a “back-door” attempt to dismiss Delhi’s elected government by seeking intervention from President Droupadi Murmu. AAP leaders claim that the BJP’s actions are a desperate move due to their inability to win elections against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. They argue that if President’s Rule is imposed, the BJP will face severe consequences in the upcoming elections. BJP counters that the AAP government has created a “grave constitutional crisis” and must address serious governance issues. Legal experts suggest that imposing President’s Rule is unlikely for minor violations and would require parliamentary approval. The political battle intensifies as both parties gear up for future elections.

In a recent turn of events, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of trying to undermine its elected government in Delhi through back-door tactics. The BJP has sent a letter to President Droupadi Murmu, requesting the dismissal of the AAP-led government, claiming there is a “grave constitutional crisis” in Delhi. AAP leaders, including Delhi minister Atishi, responded strongly, suggesting that the BJP’s attempts to purchase AAP MLAs have failed, leading them to seek a different route to remove the government.

Sanjay Singh, an AAP Rajya Sabha MP, insisted that the BJP will ultimately lose any elections, whether they occur now or in a few months. He called on the BJP to hold elections without delay, predicting a defeat for them if President’s Rule is imposed. Atishi further emphasized that if the BJP continues on this path, the people of Delhi will respond in kind during upcoming elections.

BJP leaders, including Vijender Gupta, claim that the AAP government has not adequately addressed various governance issues, such as the formation of the Sixth Delhi Finance Commission and the submission of reports to the assembly. They argue that these issues create a dire situation that warrants intervention by the President.

According to SK Sharma, a constitutional expert, imposition of President’s rule is usually a last resort and unlikely for minor issues. He noted that, unlike other states where such rule lasts for six months, it can extend up to two years in Delhi. Any decision would need approval from both houses of Parliament, highlighting the complex dynamics at play.

As political tensions mount, the AAP remains firm in its belief that its governance stands strong against BJP’s claims and maneuvers.
