In Bhubaneswar, a debate has sparked between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) over who deserves credit for developing the semiconductor industry in Odisha. This discussion began after the groundbreaking of India’s first Silicon Carbide manufacturing facility, led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. BJD leader Dibya Shankar Mishra highlighted former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s contributions to establishing infrastructure for IT and electronics, enabling major companies like IBM and Deloitte to invest in the state. In response, BJP president Manmohan Samal criticized the BJD for not implementing these initiatives while in power, asserting that the current government is now working effectively to make progress. The exchange reflects ongoing political rivalry in Odisha surrounding economic development efforts.

Bhubaneswar, September 10 (IANS) – There’s a heated discussion happening in Odisha between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD). Both parties are trying to take credit for creating the infrastructure needed for the state’s semiconductor industry development.

This debate began after Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi held a groundbreaking ceremony on September 6 for India’s first Silicon Carbide manufacturing facility, which will be built by RIR Power Electronics Ltd. This company is well-known for its advancements in semiconductor power electronics.

BJD leader Dibya Shankar Mishra spoke to reporters and emphasized that former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik recognized the importance of electronics and information technology for Odisha’s economic progress. He pointed out that due to their hard work over the past 24 years, significant projects like Infovalley I and Infovalley II were established. This paved the way for major companies like IBM, Deloitte, and Cognizant to set up operations in Odisha.

Mishra also highlighted that during Patnaik’s administration, the state developed a strong IT education infrastructure, which attracted top IT companies. He praised Patnaik for his achievements but noted that he preferred not to seek attention through public celebrations or social media.

On the other hand, BJP leader Manmohan Samal responded by questioning the BJD’s past governance, stating that they had a long time to make these developments happen. He pointed out that despite having a budget of Rs 7 lakh crore, many projects faced delays. Samal argued that the current government is now making significant efforts to implement changes quickly, and naturally, the ruling party will receive credit for these advancements.

As this political dispute continues, the focus remains on the potential growth of Odisha’s semiconductor sector and how it can drive the state’s economic future.
