The Haryana Congress unveiled its comprehensive election manifesto for the upcoming state polls, highlighting key promises including the establishment of a task force to tackle drug issues. Among other commitments, the party plans to create job opportunities for retired Agniveers, revitalize sports programs, and support farmers with debt relief initiatives. They pledge to double social security pensions and offer cash assistance to women. Additionally, the manifesto includes building a memorial for farmers who lost their lives during protests and promises two lakh new government jobs. Congress aims to address concerns about past mismanagement and fulfill the aspirations of Haryana’s residents.
The Haryana Congress has unveiled a comprehensive election manifesto ahead of the upcoming state polls on October 5, 2024. The manifesto highlights several key promises, including the formation of a special task force dedicated to addressing the ongoing drug menace in the state. This initiative aims to tackle the severe impact of drug abuse on communities across Haryana.
Aside from the task force, the Congress plans to create job opportunities for retired Agniveers, revive the ‘Padak Lao-Pad Pao’ initiative to support sportspersons, and establish a kisan commission to provide much-needed debt relief for farmers. The manifesto also includes “seven guarantees,” such as doubling social security pensions to ₹6,000 per month for the elderly and disabled, and offering free electricity for up to 300 units to domestic consumers.
Other notable commitments in the manifesto include plans to construct a memorial for farmers who lost their lives during protests, job offers to their families, and a review of cases filed against farmers by the current BJP government. The Congress has pledged to ensure that every farmer is guaranteed a minimum support price for their produce.
The party aims to create 2 lakh government jobs, provide permanent positions for temporary sanitation workers, and improve benefits for those engaged in sewer cleaning. Additional proposals include forming welfare boards for various communities and shutting down unnecessary governmental portals.
Congress leaders, including former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Ashok Gehlot, emphasized that this manifesto represents a thoughtful approach to addressing Haryana’s pressing issues, contrasting it with the BJP’s “jumla patra.”
In a strong message, Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Opposition, asserted that a Congress government would end the “decade of pain” that, according to him, has afflicted the people of Haryana under BJP rule. He promised that the Congress party is committed to fulfilling the hopes and dreams of the state’s residents.
The Congress manifesto also outlines plans to reform education, improve women’s representation in government jobs, and reintroduce the old pension scheme for employees, signaling a focus on both social welfare and economic stability for Haryana.
