Omar Abdullah, the vice president of the National Conference, criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party for its inconsistent stance on political prisoners. He pointed out that while the BJP opposed the release of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to contest elections, they welcomed the release of Engineer Rashid for the same purpose. Abdullah claimed voters in Baramulla wasted their votes on Rashid, who has not effectively represented them in Parliament. He also advised Kashmiris to think wisely in the upcoming elections to avoid benefiting the BJP. While acknowledging his past ties with the NDA and leaders like Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he expressed hope that the National Conference will secure a strong outcome in the October 8 elections.

In a recent press conference held in Srinagar, National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah voiced strong criticism against the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP). He accused the party of displaying double standards regarding the release of political figures. His remarks focused on the contrasting reactions from the BJP concerning the release of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who was allowed to contest an election despite being in jail, and Engineer Rashid, a member of Parliament from Baramulla, whose release was similarly timed for electoral purposes.

Abdullah highlighted the inconsistency in the BJP’s stance, noting how they condemned Kejriwal’s release while welcoming Rashid’s. He stated, “Something is fishy,” suggesting that the BJP’s approach lacks integrity. The National Conference leader also criticized the voters in Baramulla for their choice of Engineer Rashid in the last elections, asserting that he failed to effectively represent their interests in Parliament.

Omar Abdullah expressed disappointment regarding the temporary nature of Rashid’s release, explaining that it would only last 20 days, merely for the election period. He emphasized the importance of making informed voting decisions, urging Kashmiri voters to consider the implications of their choices as they approach the elections on October 8.

As the political landscape evolves ahead of these important elections, Abdullah remains optimistic about his party’s chances, despite facing challenges from various factions. His comments reflect the ongoing tensions in Jammu and Kashmir’s political scene, centering on integrity, representation, and the responsibility of voters.
