In Bhubaneswar, Santrupt Misra, political secretary of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), criticized the BJP government by stating that simply changing the names of development schemes won’t bring about real progress. He emphasized that Odisha has shown significant improvement in per capita income and economic stability over the past two decades, attributing this success to the efforts of the previous BJD administration. In response, BJP spokesperson Anil Biswal insisted that the new initiatives, such as the Subhadra scheme, are genuine and not mere name changes, questioning the BJD’s record on issues like malnutrition and unemployment. This exchange highlights the ongoing political tensions between the two parties in Odisha.

In Bhubaneswar, Santrupt Misra, the political secretary to BJD president Naveen Patnaik, criticized the BJP government, stating that merely changing the names of government schemes won’t lead to progress; actual implementation is what’s needed. This response comes after the BJP pointed out what they termed the achievements of the new Mohan Majhi government in its first 100 days. Misra cited a report from the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, highlighting that Odisha’s per capita income has improved significantly, reaching 88.5% compared to the national average since 2001.

He asserted that Odisha has moved from financial instability to economic strength over the last 24 years, thanks to the policies of the previous BJD administration. Misra emphasized that while the BJD has been dedicated to Odisha’s development for nearly 9,000 days, the BJP government is only now beginning to tally its accomplishments after just 100 days in office. In response, BJP spokesperson Anil Biswal stated that the Subhadra scheme is entirely new and not just a name change, and he questioned why the BJD has not addressed ongoing issues like malnutrition and unemployment during its period in power.

This ongoing political tug-of-war highlights the differing perspectives on governance and achievements in Odisha. As the political landscape shifts, the BJP and BJD continue to clash over the direction and effectiveness of their respective policies.
