Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah recently introduced “Margdarshika,” an action plan aimed at establishing and strengthening 200,000 new multipurpose primary agricultural cooperatives, targeting the dairy sector to initiate a second White Revolution. This initiative will primarily benefit rural areas lacking cooperatives for agriculture, fisheries, and dairy. The government aims to boost the livelihoods of rural producers, particularly women, who are key players in the dairy industry. By collaborating with organizations like NABARD and the National Dairy Development Board, the plan aims to significantly increase milk procurement to 100 million kilograms daily within five years. Additionally, new RuPay Kisan Credit Cards and micro-ATMs will support dairy farmers across the nation.

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah recently introduced an action plan called Margdarshika focused on strengthening the cooperative sector in India. This initiative aims to form 200,000 new multipurpose primary agricultural cooperatives (MPACs) to boost the dairy industry and enhance rural livelihoods.

During a national conference, Shah highlighted the importance of cooperatives, which allow members to pool resources and share profits and losses. He emphasized that India’s largest dairy brand, Amul, and many banks operate on this cooperative model. The government is committed to revitalizing the cooperative sector to significantly benefit the rural economy.

The White Revolution 2.0 initiative is designed to broaden the cooperative framework in the dairy sector, projecting that dairy cooperatives will be able to procure an impressive 100 million kilograms of milk daily within the next five years. This will not only enhance milk production but also uplift the living standards of rural dairy farmers.

The Margdarshika plan will ensure new cooperatives are established in areas lacking agricultural support. With a special focus on empowering women, who play a crucial role in this sector, the initiative also aims to tackle malnutrition through better livelihood opportunities.

In addition to the plan, Shah announced the nationwide rollout of RuPay Kisan Credit Cards for dairy farmers and the installation of micro-ATMs in cooperative societies, which will provide more accessible financial services to rural communities.

With the government’s efforts, the cooperative sector is set for significant growth, promising a brighter future for India’s agricultural and dairy industries.
