The city of Ahmedabad is set to witness the inauguration of a state-of-the-art police commissionerate on October 3, 2024, by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. This new seven-storey building, located at the police headquarters in Shahibaug, marks the completion of a project that originated back in 2012.

After dealing with delays related to interior outfitting, the inauguration date has finally been confirmed. There were earlier anticipations that the office could be ready by July, but adjustments in the setup caused a bit of a setback. Sources revealed that the top officials, including DGP Vikas Shay and MoS (Home) Harsh Sanghavi, have been working closely to make the final arrangements.

The new police commissionerate is designed to provide an efficient service hub for the public. It features an open corridor that will address various needs like permits, complaints, and passport-related services, which will be handled at numerous terminals. A senior police official emphasized that this facility will serve as a one-stop help desk for citizens.

According to sources, this new commissionerate is expected to be one of the best in India, housing the commissioner’s office on the top floor, followed by those of joint and additional commissioners. The building also offers ample parking facilities, a much-needed feature for the busy area, along with a cafeteria, gym, and other amenities aimed at enhancing the working environment for police personnel as well as the public.

This inauguration is a significant development for Ahmedabad, reflecting the city’s commitment to improving law enforcement services and community engagement.
