Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, is aggressively challenging Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath over concerns about governance in the state. He is vocal about issues such as corruption, law and order, and the safety of women and children. Yadav has specifically criticized the BJP government for poor construction quality on major projects, including the Gorakhpur linked Expressway and Bundelkhand Expressway, and has condemned the government’s bulldozer policy, claiming it targets the poor and minorities. LUCKNOW: Akhilesh Yadav is taking a strong stand against Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his government in Uttar Pradesh due to issues of poor governance. He has been actively addressing concerns about corruption, deteriorating law and order, and difficulties faced by women, children, farmers, and the underprivileged.
Recently, Yadav highlighted corruption in the construction of the Gorakhpur Expressway, which is particularly significant as it is the hometown of Yogi Adityanath. He also criticized the poor quality of the Bundelkhand Expressway, inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi, and raised concerns about alleged leaks in the Ram Temple project in Ayodhya.
Yadav has also spoken out against Yogi’s bulldozer policy, labeling it discriminatory towards minorities and the poor. He pledged that if his party comes to power in the 2027 elections, all bulldozers would be redirected to Gorakhpur.
Condemning recent police encounters as being largely fake and targeting opposition parties, he accused the Yogi government of neglecting backward classes, Dalits, and minorities. He cited the ongoing job deprivation of these groups despite a High Court ruling regarding the selection of 69,000 teachers.
Under Yadav’s guidance, the Samajwadi Party has been conducting a PDA awareness campaign across Uttar Pradesh. This initiative included seminars and meetings aimed at promoting the need for a caste-based census from urban centers to rural areas.
With the Samajwadi Party’s strong performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where they secured 37 seats, Yadav is eager to strengthen the party’s influence ahead of the 2027 assembly elections. He has confirmed that his alliance with Congress will remain for the upcoming elections.
