The arrests took place during separate operations in Muntinlupa City, where authorities claimed the group was running a fraudulent scheme through a fake cryptocurrency website. These individuals are wanted in South Korea, with Interpol issuing red notices against them after they were criminally charged for fraud. Another arrest was made for a different suspect, who was wanted for stealing construction materials. All six detainees are currently held at the Bureau of Immigration facility and will face deportation proceedings.

Six South Korean nationals were arrested in the Philippines for their alleged involvement in a cryptocurrency investment scam that defrauded many victims. Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado confirmed the arrests, identifying the individuals as Ha Doogyun, Kin Jung Ho, Lee Sunyeob, Kim Taemin, Yun Songwook, and Park Sukil.

The group was taken into custody during a raid in Alabang, Muntinlupa City, where they were suspected of running a large-scale fraudulent operation through a fake cryptocurrency website. This scam reportedly lured hundreds of victims, leading to losses exceeding four billion won, or about 2.9 million US dollars, since the start of 2023.

Viado stated that the arrested individuals faced red notices from Interpol and had outstanding warrants issued by a court in Seoul as of September 14. Meanwhile, Park Sukil was separately apprehended on charges of larceny at Newport Mall in Pasay City.

These six suspects are currently held at the BI warden facility in Taguig City as they await deportation proceedings. This incident highlights ongoing concerns over cryptocurrency scams and the need for vigilance among investors, especially in regions with increasing fraudulent activities.
