West Bengal Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury recently accused the police of keeping the parents of a doctor, who was allegedly raped and murdered, under house arrest. After visiting the family, Chowdhury claimed that the police made it difficult for them to leave their home and even suggested they cremate the body quickly while offering money. The tragic incident occurred at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, where the post-graduate trainee’s body was discovered on August 9. In response to the shocking crime, junior doctors have been protesting for justice and better security. The case is now under the investigation of the CBI as directed by the Calcutta High Court.
West Bengal Congress President Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury recently accused the police of placing the parents of a doctor, who was allegedly raped and murdered, under “house arrest.” During his visit to the grieving family, Chowdhury claimed that the police have been preventing the parents from leaving their home under various pretenses. He expressed concerns about their safety and well-being, stating that there is a police barricade around their house and that even the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is unaware of the situation.
Furthermore, Chowdhury alleged that law enforcement officers offered the father money to hasten the cremation of his daughter’s body. This shocking situation has unfolded since the body of the post-graduate trainee was discovered in a seminar room at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9. Since then, junior doctors have been on strike, demanding justice for their colleague and enhanced security measures in medical facilities.
The Congress leader also attempted to meet with the junior doctors at the RG Kar Medical College but was stopped by the police. He argued that if the police had acted more decisively earlier, the tragic incident could have been prevented. Currently, one civic volunteer from the Kolkata Police has been arrested in connection with the case, and the matter is now being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) following an order from the Calcutta High Court.
As the investigation unfolds, calls for justice and accountability continue to rise, reflecting the deep concerns within the medical community and the public at large.
