SOM Distilleries and Breweries, based in Bhopal, has officially entered the Karnataka Market with an exciting launch. They have introduced India’s first twist-cap beer, called “Woodpecker” premium beer, aiming for impressive sales of Rs 1,600 crore by the end of the financial year 2025.
In Karnataka, SOM Distilleries has rolled out two variants of the Woodpecker beer: the Woodpecker Glide, which is a mild but premium option, and the stronger Woodpecker Crest. These beers are available in various sizes including bottles and cans, with bottle prices around Rs 240 and cans priced at about Rs 180, depending on the type and size.
The chairman and managing director of SOM Distilleries, JK Arora, expressed pride in presenting the first twist-cap beer in India. He highlighted that this innovation reflects the company’s dedication to quality and creativity in the brewing process. The twist cap offers a convenient way for beer enthusiasts to enjoy their drinks effortlessly.
Each Woodpecker beer is carefully crafted using a blend of imported two-row barley, local Indian malts, and German hops sourced from the Rainier region, creating what they describe as India’s first cross-malt beer. To maintain exceptional quality, the brewing process is completed within 30 days, with only one batch produced each month.
Looking ahead, SOM Distilleries has plans to establish a new manufacturing plant by the end of FY25 in states such as Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, or Tamil Nadu. This ambitious venture is expected to involve an investment of about Rs 400 crore, which will include working capital.
Additionally, the company plans to diversify its offerings by introducing a new range of Indian single malts to cater to the rising consumer demand for quality spirits. Their goal is to capture a 15 percent Market share by FY25.
