Starting now, PhonePe users traveling to Singapore will be able to scan QR codes and pay at various merchants within Liquid Group’s network. This includes popular tourist spots like Changi Airport, duty-free shops, restaurants, and well-known retailers such as The Cocoa Trees and Hard Rock Café. The introduction of UPI (Unified Payments Interface) payments for these merchants will significantly streamline the shopping and dining experiences for Indian tourists.
Ritesh Pai, CEO of International Payments at PhonePe, expressed enthusiasm about this partnership, stating, “We are thrilled to partner with Liquid Group to bring the convenience of UPI payments to Indian travellers visiting Singapore.” He highlighted the importance of a seamless payment experience, allowing travelers to focus on enjoying their adventure rather than worrying about transaction methods.
In addition to making payments, PhonePe users will also be able to receive international remittances using the PayNow-UPI corridor, eliminating the need for complex banking details. Transactions will be processed in Indian rupees, further simplifying the experience for users.
