Netflix announced during its second Upfront presentation that its ad tier now boasts 40 million global monthly active users, a significant increase from the 15 million users reported last November. This ad plan now represents over 40% of all Netflix sign-ups in the markets where it is available.

“Our audiences are highly engaged, choosing to spend their time watching Netflix,” stated Bela Bajaria, the company’s content chief. Netflix shared that over 70% of its ad-supported members watch for more than 10 hours a month, surpassing competitors by 15 percentage points according to Nielsen data.

Although the company did not disclose exact subscriber figures or revenue generated from the ad tier, it emphasized the engagement levels of its user base. Netflix also introduced a new in-house technology platform for advertisers to purchase ads and measure their impact.

In addition to these updates, Netflix revealed that Celsius, an energy drink company, will be the presenting sponsor for the upcoming Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson live event streaming on the platform this July. Brand partners will be prominently featured during the broadcast.

This news follows Netflix’s recent acquisition of streaming rights to two National Football League (NFL) games scheduled to air on Christmas Day, part of a three-season deal. With less than $150 million per game reportedly paid, analysts view this move positively and anticipate significant value creation for Netflix’s ad business.
