Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has criticized the BJP’s policies for youth in Jammu and Kashmir, labeling them as deceptive. In a recent statement, he highlighted the staggering youth unemployment rate of 28.2% in the region and pointed out the issues of corruption and exam paper leaks that have hindered job recruitment in government departments. Kharge noted that 65% of these positions remain vacant since 2019, while over 60,000 daily wage workers earn only Rs 300 a day despite their long service. He accused the BJP of failing to deliver on promises of industrial growth and claimed that only 3% of the investments from the New Industrial Policy have been realized. As elections approach, he urged the youth of Jammu and Kashmir to vote against the current administration.
Title: Mallikarjun Kharge Critiques BJP’s Policies for Jammu and Kashmir Youth
Date: September 1, 2024
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has sharply criticized the BJP’s approach toward the youth of Jammu and Kashmir, labeling it as "deception." Speaking ahead of the upcoming elections, Kharge emphasized that the youth unemployment rate in the region stands at a staggering 28.2%. He reiterated the concerns over rampant corruption, exam paper leaks, and delayed hiring that have plagued the government sectors, resulting in around 65% of government department posts remaining vacant since 2019.
Kharge pointed out the plight of over 60,000 daily wage workers in Jammu and Kashmir, some of whom have worked for over 15 years but earn a meager wage of Rs 300 per day. He raised alarms regarding the precarious nature of jobs in essential services like Power and Public Health, which too many workers are still classified on a contract basis.
Despite the BJP’s promises of industrial growth in Jammu and Kashmir, Kharge highlighted the lack of significant manufacturing units. The private sector largely focuses on services in farming, hospitality, and health, with only 3% of investments from the New Industrial Policy 2021 seen realized on the ground. Additionally, he noted that a substantial 40% of projects under the PM’s Development Package from 2015 remain pending, raising questions about effective governance in the region.
Kharge concluded with a call to action for the youth, stating, "On October 1, the youth of J&K will show the exit door to Modi and Company!" As the assembly elections approach, set for September 18, September 25, and October 1, with results to be announced on October 8, the political stakes are higher than ever in Jammu and Kashmir.
