The new Apple iPhone 16 series is seeing lower demand than expected, as reported by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Pre-order sales for the iPhone 16 models were down by 12.7% compared to last year’s iPhone 15 series, especially for the Pro models. The iPhone 16 Pro Max had 17.1 million pre-orders, down 16% from the previous year, while the iPhone 16 Pro saw a 27% drop with 9.8 million pre-orders. In contrast, the base models, iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, are performing better, with 7.3 million and 2.6 million pre-orders, showing increases of 10% and 48% respectively. Reasons for the overall slowdown may include strong competition from Chinese brands and the availability of certain features in last year’s models. Pre-orders in India began, with release set for September 20.

Apple’s new iPhone 16 series is reportedly experiencing weaker demand than expected, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. In a recent report, Kuo highlighted that pre-order sales for the iPhone 16 series during the first weekend were down by 12.7 percent compared to the previous year’s iPhone 15 series. This decline is especially notable for the high-end iPhone 16 Pro models.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max achieved 17.1 million pre-orders, marking a 16 percent decrease from the launch of the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Similarly, the iPhone 16 Pro saw 9.8 million pre-orders, down 27 percent from its predecessor. Conversely, the base models, including the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus, experienced a boost in interest. They received 7.3 million and 2.6 million pre-orders, respectively, which reflects increases of 10 percent and a significant 48 percent compared to last year’s iPhone 15 and 15 Plus models.

Despite this rise in demand for the base models, Apple’s overall demand is slowing, particularly for the Pro variants. Kuo speculates this trend may be due to the inclusion of the highly anticipated Apple Intelligence features in last year’s Pro models, which are not available in the new base iPhone 16 models. Additionally, increased competition from local Chinese smartphone brands could also be impacting sales figures.

The iPhone 16 series is currently available for pre-order, with sales set to begin in India on September 20.
