Infosys, India’s second-largest IT services provider, is successfully leveraging its Cobalt platform to enhance artificial intelligence (AI) and generative AI (GenAI) initiatives. Launched four years ago, Cobalt helps clients transition to cloud-led digital transformations. Anant Adya, executive vice president at Infosys, explained that Cobalt now supports “grow, disrupt, and transform” projects, shifting from traditional IT efficiency tasks. With a focus on strong cloud foundations, Infosys aims to drive GenAI adoption significantly in the second half of 2024. The company’s digital revenue grew by 25.6% in FY23, with cloud offerings playing a pivotal role. Overall, Cobalt and Topaz represent a strategic shift toward platform solutions, enabling Infosys to deliver seamless services to clients.

Infosys, one of India’s top IT service providers, is reaping the rewards of its Cobalt platform, which is crucial for driving artificial intelligence (AI) and generative AI (GenAI) initiatives. Launched four years ago, Cobalt was designed to help clients transition smoothly to cloud-based digital solutions. Following this, Infosys introduced Topaz last year, which focuses on AI-first capabilities. According to Anant Adya, executive vice president and service offering head at Infosys, the company views Topaz as an expansion of Cobalt, emphasizing the need for a strong data infrastructure to support GenAI applications.

Adya noted that Cobalt is now facilitating a growing number of GenAI deals, highlighting its increasing maturity and effectiveness. He shared that when Cobalt was first launched, about 60 to 70 percent of their business came from IT efficiency projects. However, this has shifted dramatically, with a current focus of 60 to 70 percent on transformative projects aimed at growth and disruption.

As digital services accounted for nearly 63 percent of Infosys’ revenue in the fiscal year 2023, the company’s cloud offerings are proving to be a significant driver of growth. Although the initial excitement around GenAI is tempered by many clients still evaluating proof-of-concept stages, Adya expressed optimism that the second half of 2024 will see widespread adoption of GenAI. He also indicated that the company’s platform-oriented strategy, through services like Cobalt and Topaz, will facilitate smoother project execution, showcasing Infosys’ commitment to enhancing customer journeys in the digital space.

This shift not only aligns with evolving Market needs but also positions Infosys strongly in a competitive landscape increasingly focused on AI and cloud technologies.
