The Union Cabinet has approved Kaynes Technology’s new semiconductor facility in Sanand, Gujarat, marking India’s fifth under the Semiconductor Mission. With an investment of Rs 3,307 crore, this plant will produce 6.3 million chips daily and cover 46 acres. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted that most chips will be used in power equipment for trains, cars, and home appliances. This project follows recent approvals for semiconductor units from Micron, Tata, and CG Power, contributing to a growing semiconductor ecosystem in India. Industry leaders expect this initiative to support local electronics and meet rising global demand projected to hit $1 trillion by 2030.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently announced a major boost for India’s semiconductor industry with the approval of the country’s fifth semiconductor facility. This new Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging (ATMP) unit will be established by Kaynes Technology in Sanand, Gujarat. The initiative, backed by an investment of Rs 3,307 crore, is expected to produce an impressive 6.3 million chips daily.

In a press briefing, Vaishnaw highlighted the significance of this facility, stating, “The plant covers 46 acres and will cater to various sectors including power equipment for train sets, automobiles, and home appliances.” This approval falls under the ambitious Rs 76,000 crore India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), which aims to position India as a global player in semiconductor production.

Kaynes Technology’s plant joins other major projects, including those from Micron and Tata in Gujarat and Assam, significantly enhancing India’s semiconductor capabilities. The government projects indicate that these units could collectively generate a production capacity of around 7 crore chips per day, supporting the burgeoning local electronics Market and responding to global demand, which is expected to reach $1 trillion by 2030.

Vaishnaw also provided updates on the ongoing construction at the Micron facility, which was the first under the ISM, suggesting that India is on the right track toward establishing a robust semiconductor ecosystem. The India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA) praised the initiative, emphasizing its potential to stimulate the local industry and meet future demands.

As India continues to invest in semiconductor technology, industry leaders anticipate significant growth, positioning the country as a key player in the global Market.
