This move involved the reassignment of seven police officials, including two Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, as part of a broader strategy to maintain law and order during the elections. The Commission has requested the Union Territory administration to submit a list of IPS officers to fill these positions by Thursday evening.

The Election Commission of India has taken significant steps to prepare for the upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. On August 31, 2024, the Jammu and Kashmir government announced the appointment of four new Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) and one Superintendent of Police (SP) following a directive from the Election Commission.

The new appointments include Imtiyaz Hussain Mir as SSP of Srinagar, Mohammad Zaid as SSP of Baramulla, Ghulam Jeelani Wani as SSP of Kupwara, and Ifroz Ahmad as SP of Handwara. This reshuffling is part of a larger move to ensure a smooth and fair election process in the region. Seven police officials, including two Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, have been transferred to different positions, reflecting the Election Commission’s commitment to maintaining law and order during the elections.

The Election Commission has also requested the Union Territory administration to provide a list of IPS officers to fill the important roles in Srinagar, Baramulla, Handwara, and Kupwara by a certain deadline. This proactive strategy underscores the importance of transparency and integrity in the electoral process, aiming to foster trust among voters.

This reshuffle is just one of many steps the Election Commission is taking to ensure a secure environment during the elections, highlighting its ongoing efforts to uphold democratic values in Jammu and Kashmir.
