Thus, consultations will take place before making any decisions regarding their implementation in Barak Valley and Sixth Schedule areas. The Chief Minister assured that the government is proactively working to safeguard the interests of indigenous peoples beyond the committee’s recommendations.
This initiative comes in the wake of significant protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act, leading to the formation of the committee back in 2019, with its findings submitted to the previous Chief Minister in 2020.
