Ahead of the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections, Union Home Minister Amit Shah met with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. While specific details of the meeting remain undisclosed, CM Shinde described the discussions as positive, emphasizing that seat-sharing talks are progressing well. The ruling coalition, known as Mahayuti, which includes the Shiv Sena, BJP, and Ajit Pawar-led NCP, is working toward a consensus on contesting 70 to 80 percent of the 288 assembly seats. Shinde hinted that the focus would be on the winnability of candidates when distributing poll tickets. The assembly elections in Maharashtra are expected to take place in November.



Union Home Minister Amit Shah met with Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on September 25, 2024. This meeting came ahead of the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections, with discussions focused on seat-sharing arrangements within the ruling Mahayuti alliance, consisting of the Shiv Sena led by Shinde, the BJP, and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP.

Shinde described the meeting as positive, stating, ” Talks are moving ahead positively with co-ordination,” indicating that significant progress is being made. The leaders gathered at a hotel for discussions that reportedly lasted until around 12:30 AM. Although details of the talks were not disclosed, there is an expectation for a concrete decision soon.

BJP Maharashtra President Chandrashekhar Bawankule has mentioned that there is a consensus among alliance members to contest 70-80% of the 288 legislative assembly seats. Notably, winnability will be a key factor in distributing poll tickets for the elections anticipated in November.

As it stands, the BJP holds the largest number of seats in the current assembly with a total of 103 MLAs, followed by Shiv Sena with 40, NCP with 41, and Congress also with 40 seats.

This ongoing collaboration among coalition partners is crucial as they prepare for a competitive election environment in Maharashtra.
