During the ongoing assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, a total of 1,263 violations of the Model Code of Conduct have been reported, with authorities seizing cash and materials valued at Rs 130 crore. Chief Electoral Officer P K Pole highlighted that the police are responsible for the majority of these seizures, totaling Rs 107.50 crore. Of the reported violations, 600 cases have been closed after investigations, while 364 are still under review. Enforcement agencies have registered 32 FIRs related to illegal activities. This election marks the first assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, with results scheduled to be announced on October 8. Voter turnout has been strong, with over 61% in the first phase.

CEO P K Pole provided a breakdown of the seizures, revealing that the CGST department seized Rs 9.88 crore, the SGST department seized Rs 8.03 crore, and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) registered seizures totaling Rs 2.06 crore. Other agencies, including the income tax department and the State Excise Department, also made significant findings.

So far, authorities have granted 7,088 permissions to political parties and candidates for rallies, processions, and other election-related activities. The third and final phase of voting is scheduled for October 1, following a robust voter turnout in previous phases—61.38 percent in the first phase and 57.31 percent in the second. These elections mark the first Assembly elections in the region since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, with results expected on October 8.
