Microsoft’s CEO, Satya Nadella, announced that artificial intelligence (AI) agents will transform software-as-a-service (SaaS) models by automating backend business processes. He discussed the rise of a new tier of multi-agent systems that will enhance productivity and streamline workflows. Nadella predicted that 2025 will see a surge in large language models (LLMs), shifting the focus from simply admiring technology to effectively utilizing it. Nandan Nilekani highlighted India’s potential as a leader in AI innovation, given its established digital infrastructure and supportive government policies. He emphasized the importance of making AI inference costs economical to serve a large population effectively, showcasing AI’s role in various sectors, including finance and biometrics.

Artificial Intelligence is set to shake up Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) models, according to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. Speaking at an event in Bengaluru, he emphasized that many backend processes will soon be managed by AI agents. This development means that a new layer of multi-agent systems will orchestrate the actions of various SaaS applications.

Nadella highlighted that just as people create spreadsheets to simplify tasks, they will soon develop many agents to streamline their work. He predicted that by 2025, large language models (LLMs) will be prevalent, fundamentally changing how businesses operate. Rather than just admiring advancements like LLMs, he stressed the importance of utilizing this technology effectively.

Nandan Nilekani, the tech veteran and co-founder of Infosys, supported Nadella’s vision, asserting that India is emerging as a leader in AI innovation. With years of experience in building digital infrastructure, India is well-positioned to take advantage of AI’s potential. Nilekani noted that the country has a government that understands the balance between fostering AI innovation and implementing necessary safeguards.

AI is already making strides in various sectors in India. For example, Aadhaar, the national identification system, utilizes AI for biometric authentication. Moreover, banks are adopting AI for advanced fraud detection. Nilekani highlighted the need to reduce AI inference costs to accommodate the needs of India’s massive population, ensuring that AI services are accessible to everyone.

As we look to the future, the integration of AI in SaaS models appears to be the key to unlocking greater productivity and efficiency across industries.
