Tata Electronics, a subsidiary of Tata Sons, has announced a significant partnership with Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) to establish India’s first semiconductor facility in Dholera, Gujarat. This venture will involve a massive investment of up to Rs 91,000 crore and aims to generate over 20,000 direct and indirect jobs. The facility is set to produce up to 50,000 semiconductor wafers monthly, focusing on chips for various applications such as AI, automotive, and wireless communication. Tata Electronics plans to leverage PSMC’s advanced technology and expertise to enhance India’s semiconductor manufacturing capabilities, positioning India prominently in the global semiconductor Market. Tata Electronics, a key subsidiary of Tata Sons, has made headlines by finalizing an agreement with Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) to launch India’s first greenfield semiconductor fabrication plant in Dholera, Gujarat. This monumental project is set to involve a staggering investment of up to Rs 91,000 crore and is expected to create over 20,000 skilled jobs, both directly and indirectly.

Chairman of Tata Sons, N Chandrasekaran, expressed his enthusiasm about this collaboration, stating that PSMC’s expertise in semiconductor manufacturing will be crucial in advancing India’s capabilities in this sector. He firmly believes that this initiative will not only drive growth for Tata Electronics but also fortify the global semiconductor supply chain, positioning India as a vital player in the international Market.

Dr. Frank Huang, Chairman of Powerchip Group, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of this partnership for both India and Taiwan. He noted that the new facility will have a capacity of producing up to 50,000 wafers every month and will utilize advanced automation technologies to enhance efficiency.

The semiconductor Fab will manufacture a variety of chips for applications ranging from power management to artificial intelligence, thereby addressing the rising demands in various high-tech industries. Tata Electronics has already onboarded leading Taiwanese design firms to ensure the new Fab meets the highest international standards of quality and sustainability.
