West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed her concerns to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding severe floods in South Bengal, which she attributes to the Damodar Valley Corporation’s excessive release of water from its dams. In her letter, she threatened to sever ties with the DVC unless immediate action is taken. Banerjee highlighted that the region is facing its worst floods since 2009 and called for urgent central funding to address the damage. She urged the government to prioritize the situation and provide financial support for extensive flood management to help the affected people.

Bengal Floods: West Bengal Chief Minister’s Urgent Plea to PM Modi

In a recent move, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has officially communicated her concerns to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the devastating floods affecting South Bengal. She has threatened to sever ties with the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), which she claims has unilaterally released a massive amount of water, exacerbating the flooding situation.

In her letter to the Prime Minister, Banerjee highlighted the severe condition in the Lower Damodar area, stating that the current floods are the worst since 2009. She is urging immediate action, specifically the release of central funds to assist in flood relief efforts. “I earnestly request that you give this matter serious consideration and direct the concerned ministries to address these issues as top priority,” Banerjee wrote, stressing the urgent need for substantial funding for flood management.

The Chief Minister attributes the flooding to the DVC’s decision to release nearly 500,000 cusecs of water from the Maithon and Panchet dams, leading to widespread devastation in affected areas. As residents continue to face challenges from the floods, the need for quick government action is more crucial than ever.
