Despite facing challenges during the Congress government’s era, which neglected necessary infrastructure and faculty, four out of eight earlier sanctioned medical colleges have now received approval from the National Medical Commission. Rao emphasized that this initiative has added 200 new MBBS seats for the current academic year, ensuring ample opportunities for local students.
Before the formation of Telangana, there were only 850 government medical seats. Now, that number has risen to an impressive 4,090, reflecting a fivefold increase in just nine years. Harish Rao attributed this growth to the vision of BRS president K Chandrashekar Rao, who successfully established 29 new government medical colleges with little support from the central government.
With Telangana now producing over 10,000 doctors each year and leading the country with 22 MBBS seats per lakh population, Rao urged the state government to manage the newly established colleges effectively, ensuring they have the necessary infrastructure and faculty to maintain future National Medical Commission approvals.
