Hong Kong police are on the lookout for four men who abducted a cryptocurrency investor and attacked her husband with a stun gun after stopping their car in a rural village. The 55-year-old woman was freed about an hour after being forced into a car in Sheung Shui on Tuesday night. It’s believed the abduction stemmed from a financial dispute over a $1.9 million investment in virtual currency.

The woman, who works as a cryptocurrency investor, and her 43-year-old husband, who owns an IT company, were targeted by the assailants. After their car was intercepted, the men dragged the woman out and stunned her husband when he tried to intervene. The captors then sped off with the woman before she was eventually released 7km away from the crime scene in Ta Kwu Ling.

The woman suffered minor injuries to her arms and legs, while her husband had wounds to his head, neck, and limbs. They were taken to North District Hospital for treatment. Police are treating the case as unlawful detention and assault, and investigations are ongoing. No arrests have been made so far.

This incident comes just days after another abduction in Tsim Sha Tsui where a woman was rescued and three suspects were arrested. The increase in violent crimes in Hong Kong is a concerning trend, with 10,122 cases reported last year, a significant rise from the previous year. Police are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help combat crime in the city.
